About Cortland Steck


A graduate of the New York Institute of Technology in 1976 where he received a bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, after which he continued to expand his studies and in 1979 graduated the Westlawn School of Yacht Design.

In 1984 he established Cortland Steck Yacht Designs in St. Petersburg, Florida, and with over 25 years in the recreational marine industry is a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers.

Cortland Steck has served as chief engineer and in-house naval architect for such production companies as Hunter Marine, Endeavour Yachts, as well as for Trident Shipworks builder of super yachts ranging from 100 to 150 feet in length.

He served as project manager for McKinna Yachts and oversaw the development and introduction into production of a 60’ express cruiser and 65’ motor yacht at the Lien Hwa Shipyard in Taiwan. He has created designs for the likes of Wellcraft and Manta Catamarans, and has created custom designs in both power and sail, monohulls and multihulls with over 5000 boats to his designs in service.
